See this: McSweeney's: Lucky Peach

I love food.  But then again, who doesn't?

My blog post this week combines two of my biggest loves (no, not fashion this time), but magazines and food!  What I like about McSweeney's Lucky Peach is how they make the food industry so humorous.  The magazine is produced by the same company that puts on Anthony Bourdain's: No Reservations, so it has to be awesome.  There are only two issues out thus far, and I think they are doing really cool things with their design.  It's super goofy and borderline inappropriate at times.  So naturally, I'm in.

Everything about their magazine is captured in their cover, which I think is a sign of great design:

Who wouldn't want to read this?

Take a look at this spread they did on, of all things, how to kill a fish.

  1. I'm so glad you posted this, because I love love love quirky, low brow stuff like this. Gets right to the heart of the question with no extra ornament. Thanks for posting! I'm definitely bookmarking it.

  2. I have never heard of this magazine, and I am a little repulsed by the cover. (I hate fish and uncooked meat, in general). However, I like the comic-like look for how to kill a fish. It has kind of that graphic novel feel, which according to my mom who is a librarian, are becoming really popular.

  3. Anyone with the balls to put a nasty fish on the cover is awesome in my book. I love that it tows the line without using sex proving there are other ways to sell a magazine. Good find!

  4. As everyone else has said, great find! There is not one food publication out there (that I can think of) that is doing anything like this. This magazine is definitely adding some humor and spunk into the food magazine industry. The thing about it is, the simple and goofy presentation doesn't read as immature or naive. The magazine seems like it knows what it is talking about.
